Sinclair spent his time reading and writing, but most of all of the just surviving.
I met Sinclair on Thursday, Dec. 8, the 25th anniversary of John Lennon’s murder. We met at Agave, a fine Mexican restaurant close to the campus of Wayne State University. His presence in Detroit on that day was entirely serendipity. He had been in the city for a poetry reading and concert during the university honoring the poets and music of Katrina-battered New Orleans, a town Sinclair loves and where he lived for a decade.
I inquired where he lives now.
“Amsterdam, for obvious reasons,” he replied, with a laugh and a twinkle in his eye. But his voice softened and his eyes moistened when we talked about John Lennon.
“I bear in mind him about this date each year. It had been so near to the date where our lives intersected, as it was Dec. 10 when he came here to Ann Arbor and got me away from prison,” Sinclair said.
He shook his head, thinking about his friend John Lennon.
“For any artist to be assassinated in his prime, on his way home from work, going into his home, it really is horrifying. For this to be some guy like John Lennon, who represented and believed in peace, love and communications between human beings, probably significantly more than someone else in the music world, you simply shudder to think about this,” he said.

Good Friday was your day He died. I read somewhere that earlier it absolutely was called God Friday. In which he resurrected on Easter Sunday. If one passes through the task therefore the teachings of Jesus, one finds nothing but selfless giving and miraculous cures. Jesus can certainly cure miraculously because he had been Son of God. But did He enjoy any material comforts? Any pleasures? His life is nothing but a chronicle of a person who suffered, but took away sufferings of others. Even His death was a tremendously painful death.
What does Jesus’ life teach us? It teaches us never to give suffering to others but take it ourselves.
